Game Design - short fiction to board game adaptation

Workshop conducted by Douglas E. Stanley (CH)
and Lea Schönfelder (DE)

Organized in cooperation with the Masters in Media Design at HEAD – Genève
With the support of Pro Helvetia

This workshop proposes a hybrid exploration of the intersection of games, narrative, and mapping. Using techniques of digital fabrication, workshop participants will create micro theaters onto which playable narratives will be projected. These narratives will be adapted from a collection of short stories which will be presented at the beginning of the workshop.

Techniques explored in the workshop : Game Design, Narrative Design, Digital Fabrication, Video Mapping, Unity.


Instructors biographies

Douglas E. Stanley (CH)

Douglas Edric Stanley is an American-born artist and teaches in Aix en Provence where he founded the Atelier Hypermédia, an atelier dedicated to the exploration of algorithms and code as artistic materials. Douglas also teaches Algorithmic Design in the Media Design Master of the Geneva University of Art and Design (HEAD). He has organised numerous workshops related to creative programming for various non-profits, universities and art schools. As an artist, he has participated in several exhibitions related to digital art.

Lea Schönfelder (DE)

Lea Schönfelder is an animator and game designer, who has produced several computer games including “Ulitsa Dimitrova” and “Ute: A game for adults”. Her work has been presented worldwide in various festivals and exhibitions. Lea has held workshops about games and interactive animation in China and the Czech Republic, taught game courses at the University of Kassel and was the co-organizer of the game-festival SPIELSALON in Kassel, Germany. She is currently a graduate student in Interactive Media at the Baden-Württemberg Film Academy.
