Cyril Meroni & 9th Cloud
9th Cloud
9th Cloud is one of France’s finer underground talents, he’s remained true to his own approach, and has been busy concocting his unique blend of delicate rhythms and melodic electronica since 1999. As a boy, he would often borrow 7-inch singles from the jukebox in his father’s café, spending countless hours alone, bumping tunes on the tiny record-player. This irresistible attraction for new sounds and musical devices would prove to be more than a passing interest, as cassette collages in his teen years can attest to. Scratching and turntablism soon became a central part of his music, in addition to samplers and synthesizers.
Cyril Meroni
After a short career as a professional drummer and as a photographer at the same time, Cyril Meroni started to work on moving image in 2002, fisrt of all with the director Bruno Ulmer, as a special effects monitor (Arte), and then within the collective of artists Anonymal. His career was enriched by collaborations: in 2008, he signed two video clips with the dancers of the Ballet National of Marseille; in 2009 an experimental movie showed in the Museum of Fashion and in the FRAC (the Regional Fundings of Contemporary Art) with the stylist Fred Sathal; in 2010 a video clip with the musician Danton Eeprom. In 2011, he cosigned the creation Submerso (mise-en-scene, video, and scenrography) with the choregrapher Ana Matins.
